We rowed to the finals 2011-07-04 The 3rd Kanizsa Dragonboat Championship and Roadshow was again held at the Csónakázó [rowing] Lake on June 17-19, 2011. As last year, our company took part in the competition this year as well. As a consequence of the tough training for weeks, we were looking forward to competing at the week-end with adequate preparedness, practice and zest. The team of DKG-EAST called Kútfejek competed with 19 other competitors in the corporate category. Because of the excellent weather and the colourful and different programs, many visitors and fans came to root for the competing teams during the events. Our team walloped in two rounds held in the bright sunny weather on Saturday. We could easily take the 350 meter distance despite the wind. The race held on Sunday morning was a milestone for us, because making it to the finals was the target. The weather became worse compared to Saturday. Despite the efforts of the first day, a reposed dragonboat crew arrived to the scene and splashed down after the tactical session and rowed up to the start line with adequate courage. We all could hardly stand waiting for the start pistol’s bang, because we all knew that we had to compete with tough rivals. Despite the cool and rainy weather, our team as honourably as pro rowers could qualify itself into the finals, as a result of its strenuous and disciplined performance. In the last decisive round, we made efforts to row the boat toward the finish line by immersing our oars into the water in the corresponding rhythm the drummer and the steersman filliped, and after that in the last 50 meters by doing our best we could successfully row our boat to the 3rd place for the first time in our company’s history with a time result of 1 minute and 46 seconds that is recognizable even among professionals, which was significantly helped by the cheering coming from the direction of the fans who were standing on the shore. We were happy to go home with a cup from this dragon boat competition that was exhausting but gave us very exciting and unforgettable experiences. |
